Lucifer Falls is an exhibit of Jeff Bark’s new body of work opening at the Haster Hunt Kraeutler Gallery on September 9th and through October 16, 2010. The series of photographs of waterfalls is a departure from his earlier series for which he constructed elaborate sets in the studio. See more of Jeff Bark’s work here.

On July 1st, the State of Nuevo Leon, México, woke up devastated by hurricane Alex brutal force. Hurricane Alex was the first tropical storm that hit the north of the country on 2010. It’s strength and devastation became a catastrophe in the State of Nuevo Leon. Thousands of people lost their homes and entire cities were under water. Nobody was prepared for what happened next, as it kept raining. Rivers overflowed causing rescuers to take longer than expected to help those stuck in high risk zones.

This photograph is part of an exhibition, Robert Mapplethorpe: Perfection In Form, currently on view at the Galleria dell’Accademia in Florence, Italy. The show presents Mapplethorpe’s work alongside sculptures by Michelangelo, who was a major influence on the photographer. This is the first exhibition of work by a post-Renaissance artist at the Galleria dell’Academia, and is also the first major photography exhibition at a Florentine state museum. The show opened in May and was due to come down at the end of the summer, but due to popularity the closing date was recently extended to January 10, 2010.

An image from a personal series focusing on “real” women and their feelings about their bodies. Amy’s work explores the ideologies of   womanhood and the secret lives and fantasies of women. She approaches her subjects as more of a film director than photographer, and strives to promote self-esteem and a positive body image in women. This image is part of the group exhibition “Summertime” currently on view at the Robin Rice Gallery.
