Fine-art photographer Janelle Lynch’s work explores themes related to the life cycle and representations thereof in the urban and rural landscape. The images shown here are from Mexico City and Chiapas, and are part of her forthcoming book (Janelle Lynch: Los Jardines de México, Radius Books, Spring 2011).

The publication came about after the photographer was nominated for the Santa Fe Prize for Photography in 2009. As a nominee, Lynch was also invited to participate in Review Santa Fe, where she met acquisitions editor and Radius Books co-founder Darius Himes.

Photographer Fiona Aboud’s love of culture and personal expression is reflected in her ongoing personal project documenting Sikhs living all over the U.S.—including Georgia, Kentucky, Tennessee, New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Virginia, California, Texas and New Mexico, as they carry their traditions into, says Aboud, the fabric of America.

Katrina M. d’Autremont’s relationship to her South American family and the search to find her place amidst different cultures and generations is the subject of 26 color prints in her series “Si Dios Quiere” (If God Wants). The Philadelphia-based photographer was recently selected as the winner of the Silver Eye Center for Photography Fellowship Competition for this body of work, currently on view in a solo exhibit at Silver Eye in Pittsburgh through March 20.

Award-winning photographer Bastienne Schmidt presents this conceptual series of photographs depicting herself in the role of a “Housewife,” blending in and out into different public and private environments. “Home Stills” will be published as a book in the fall of 2010 by Jovis. (Schmidt’s previous book, ShadowHome, explores her native Germany in photographs taken between 1989 – 2004.)

Fine-art photographer Susan Barnett took to the streets of New York City recently to ask over 900 people to pose and have the back of their t-shirts photographed. Above is a sampling of some of the most interesting ones she encountered. Says Barnett: “My success rate has been almost 100 percent but sometimes I am given short shrift. One t-shirt read ‘A t-shirt can change the world!’ I really liked that one but ironically that fellow refused to stop!” Barnett used her 49-year-old Leicaflex SL2 camera with 35mm Ektar and Portra Vivid Color film to get the shots.

All photos by Ted Kawalerski.  “This is a personal project about photographic compositions that involve windows as frames, dramatic backgrounds and reflections. Most of the photographs were made while I was traveling on commercial assignments around the world and just happened serendipitously,” says Kawalerski, an advertising and corporate photographer.  (An exhibit of images from an extended body of this work will be held at Calumet in New York City from October 19-29, 2009. In early November, the show moves to The Union League Cafe in New Haven, Connecticut.)

Hanlon used a Canon 1d Mark II and a fast shutter speed. He did some post production in Photoshop on the color balance.
