Wyatt Gallery’s Tent Life: Haiti shows us the reality of Haitian life almost a year after the “worst natural calamity to befall any one country in modern times,” while pointing out the struggle to rebuild has only just begun. The 1.5 million Haitians who lost their homes in January 2010 still primarily live in tent cities, and the promised billions in foreign aid have yet to materialize. While peacekeepers and aid donors have budgets that overshadow the government’s, a lack of coordination in their efforts has hampered recovery. Much remains to be done, and Tent Life: Haiti puts a spotlight on the needs greater than money: for housing, for education and for good government.

The book Tent Life: Haiti will be released April 1, 2011, and 100% of the royalties will go towards three Haitian organizations: J/P Haitian Relief Organization, Healing Haiti and the Global Syndicate. An exhibition of Wyatt Gallery’s photography will be on display at Umbrage Gallery in Brooklyn through March 31, 2011.
