Scenes from the Ladies’ Loo (8 photos)
All Photos © Zoe Buckman
Working as a cocktail waitress in London nightclubs, the ladies’ loo (restroom) was a space that served many purposes for Zoe. Clubs came and went, as did the crowds, but the ladies loo was a constant. It was where Zoe changed for a shift, had a smoke, had a cry, rested her feet, powdered her nose, misbehaved, hid…
Informed by real conversations that she overheard in the loo, Zoe Buckman has constructed scenes where the candid and the contrived coexist. The photographs evoke both the private self and the public persona one habitually assumes in this space, that masks our complexity. The series explores the unique and colorful world of the ladies’ restroom on a night out: the warmth and superficiality; the melancholy and play; and the sisterly exchanges between strangers and friends that occur only in the loo. The exhibition Loos, currently on display at the Milk Gallery, closes today at 6pm.

You truly make it seem so easy with your presentation but I find that topic being really something which I believe I might by no means understand. It seems too complicated and extremely broad for me. I am looking forward for the next post, I can try to get the hang of it!
