Palm-oil plantations have replaced over 90 percent of Borneo’s ancient forests. This has displaced our closest relative, the orangutan, which is close to extinction. Sombra Projects exists as a compliment to the photographers’ individual endeavors and provides them an opportunity to work together, allowing them to make connections between their diverse experiences and to engage in a conversation to about their lives and, more importantly, the people and places in front of the lens.
