 © Builder Levy.

This gold-toned silver gelatin print titled, End of Shift Wolf Creek Colliery, Lovely, Martin Cty, KY 1971 is part of  Builder Levy’s Coal Appalachia project. He has spent more than 40 years photographing in the hills and hollows of West Virginia, Kentucky, Virginia and Pennsylvania. More photographs from the project will be projected during a panel discussion with Builder tonight at Phillips de Pury & Co in New York City.

In addition, Builder will be showing two different selections of his coal Appalachia photographs at OK Harris Works of Art Gallery and the Flomenhaft Gallery in remembrance of the 29 miners killed last month in the methane explosion at Massey’s Upper Big Creek Mine in Raleigh County, WV, and two other miners killed in a sapearate accident at a western Kentucky mine.
