Yao Lu has created a thoughtful and timely series inspired by traditional Chinese paintings entitled New Landscapes in which mounds of garbage covered in green protective nets are assembled and reworked by computer to create images of rural mountain landscapes shrouded in the mist. New Landscapes will be on view until December 12 at Bruce Silverstein Gallery, 535 West 24th Street, New York City.

Steve Bloom recently released Trading Places: The Merchants of Nairobi, his new book with publisher Thames & Hudson. The project explores sections of the Kenyan metropolis where locals shop, documenting the shopkeepers who decorate their small businesses with hand-painted signs.

Robert Frank at the Robert Mann Gallery coincides with the 50th anniversary of the publication of his seminal book The Americans. The exhibition includes iconic images from The Americans, as well as earlier poetic photographs taken in Paris and London.
