For the Birds

One of five images from Hugh Kretschmer’s new series titled “Blustery Day.” The “sky” is actually the floor of Kretschmer’s Los Angeles studio. He shot the image from scaffolding 16 feet up. Kretschmer built all the props and sets: he made the tree from chicken wire, and smoke and clouds from fabric. Elements in the series like ocean waves, tree bark and flowers were cut from inkjet prints
