Mona Lisa at the Mona Lisa

Kalisher shot this image in 2002. He didn’t speak to the woman who bears an uncanny resemblance to da Vinci’s Mona Lisa, and didn’t get her name. “She walked in front of me and I had one chance at the picture,” Kalisher says. “I would love to know who she is.”

This image and 11 other photos from Kalisher’s “Art Watching” series were recently acquired by The Louvre museum in Paris. More images from this series are available through the Jesse Kalisher Gallery in Carrboro, North Carolina.
