For the curious, here’s the camera data from the file Stu sent us.
Model: Canon EOS-1D Mark II N. Shutter speed: 1/1250 sec. F-Stop: f/8.0. Aperture Value: f/8. Max Aperture Value: f/4.0. ISO Speed Ratings: 250. Focal length: 23.0 mm. Lens: EF17-40mm f/4L USM. Flash: Did not fire.
It’s rare to see a photo of something you’ve never really seen before… but this one manages to do that. Very cool. (Were there many failed attempts to get this shot?)
thanks for all the comments, i think i shot about 50 images this arvo, i have a aquatech housing, so i was rollling around in the shorebreak for a while. super hard to get the water in the air, i made a launch ramp with my foot but you need the water moving fast, so to make the ramp and get yourself back in postion before the next wave is the hardest part of all

Such an incredible photograph – surely the lens was pretty wet afterwards?

Amazing!
Yeah, surely that lens was submerged!

Wow is right! It’s so real, it’s unreal. It also kind of reminds me of claymation or something of that sort.

It looks like the exif got striped out. Does anyone know what stop/shutter speed was used?

The lens could be wet…or he could have waterproof housing. Either way…the shot would’ve been worth the cost it.

Upon seeing this, I involuntarily closed my mouth in fear of getting saltwater in it. Well shot!
