Photo by Richard Wainwright from a project on National Immunization Day. A vaccinator gives polio drops to a child on a train in Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh, India on February 1, 2009. During the NID throughout India, over 172 million children under five were given their life-saving drops of polio vaccine. There is no cure for polio, a crippling and potentially fatal disease, so the best protection is prevention. The World is now 99.8% polio free following a 20-year eradication campaign let by Rotary International. Wainwright is based in Jersey, Channel Islands.

“Joseph Szabo has a rare gift for capturing the spirit of his students at Malverne High School perched precariously between puberty and adulthood – no longer children but not quite adults. For 25 years he recorded their sensitivity, pretensions, passions and confusion in this series of extraordinary images. Some of his subjects are sweetly self-conscious whilst others are self-assured beyond their years. Szabo’s work above entitled, “Tom on his car, 1977,” is one featured piece in an upcoming distinctive photography preview and benefit auction entitled ‘AMERICA” produced by New York’s premier full service photography facility Fast Ashley’s Studios in Brooklyn and its sister brand, the leading fine art digital printing service IC LAB of Manhattan. 100% of the net proceeds from this auction will go to the Americans for the Arts, the leading national nonprofit organization for advancing the arts in America.” This event will take place on Thursday, April 16, at 7 pm in Williamsburg. For info on how to attend and participate in this auction please visit http://www.fastashleysstudios.com/.
